Homework week 9 Term 1

Year 5/6 Homework Term 1 Week 9 2011
Spelling
Learn the 10 spelling words for the week. Practise learning them everyday. Put 5 of them into sentences.


Reading: You must read for at least 15 minutes each night. Record your reading in a table. Write a small reflection of your reading this week. What did you enjoy? Predict what is going to happen.


Basic facts: What basic facts do you need to learn? Choose 1 of them to learn and master – if you can do them out of order you are doing very well!

Inquiry: For inquiry at the moment we are looking at the Christchurch earthquake. This week, find a story of interest relating to the earthquake. It could be anything from friendships, animals, rebuilding, heroism etc. Bring the article in (or record the main points down) and share them with a friend on Friday.
If you do not have the internet, find something in the newspaper.
Tip: you will find some links to great websites on the class blogs.

Week 8

Spelling:
Continue learning your words from your spelling lists. You need to recite the spelling of these words every night with someone at home while doing star jumps. If you have particularly tricky words, you must find its dictionary meaning and write your word in a sentence.
Reading:
Continue Reading Around New Zealand. Keep going and push yourself even harder. Set yourself a goal to get to the next town by the end of the week.
Art:
What does it mean to observe? When you observe something, you look at it very closely. How can we be good observers? We can look at something very, very closely. We want to notice all the details.
In class we have been paying special attention to the Nikau tree and we have produced some amazing drawings and paintings.
For homework this week you are to take an ordinary object and look at it very closely. You are going to practice seeing. You are to draw exactly what you see. Try to add as much detail as you can.

Bring your drawings to school on Friday to share with the class.

Maths:
Have a go at playing some of the maths games on our class blogs. Record the games you play in your homework book.

Reminders:

Year 6's: All Peer Mediator applications need to be handed in to either Mr. Hull or Mr. Devenport by Thursday 24th.

Homework: Term 1 week 7

What a fantastic camp we had last week!! All the teachers and the parents were very pleased with your efforts and particularly impressed with your outstanding behaviour.

Homework officially starts this week! Below are details of what needs to be completed.

Spelling:

Continue learning your words from your spelling lists. You need to recite the spelling of these words every night with someone at home. If you have particularly tricky words, you must find its dictionary meaning and write your word in a sentence. On Friday or next Monday you will be tested on these words.

Reading:

Continue Reading Around New Zealand. Some of you are doing very, very well. Set yourself a goal to get to the next town by the end of the week.

Camp:

You have your camp booklet to complete. Remember it needs to be completed to a high standard with excellent presentation.
